Learn how to keep your home spotless during the challenging winter months with these professional tips.

1. Create an Entryway System

The entryway is where most winter dirt enters your home. Wet boots, coats, and snow-covered clothing can easily spread moisture across floors.

Create a designated entry zone with durable floor mats, shoe racks, and storage for winter clothing. Absorbent mats help trap moisture before it reaches your floors. It is also helpful to place a tray or boot rack where wet shoes can dry without creating puddles.

2. Increase Vacuuming Frequency

During winter, small particles of sand, salt, and dirt are often tracked inside. These particles can scratch flooring and settle into carpets if not removed regularly.

Vacuum high-traffic areas such as hallways, living rooms, and entryways at least two or three times per week. A vacuum with a HEPA filter is ideal because it captures fine dust particles and improves indoor air quality.

3. Protect Your Floors

Road salt and moisture can damage wooden floors, laminate, and tiles over time. Placing rugs in entryways, hallways, and near doors helps protect these surfaces.

Regularly clean and shake out these rugs so they continue trapping dirt effectively. If salt residue appears on floors, wipe the area with a slightly damp microfiber cloth to prevent long-term staining.

4. Maintain Proper Humidity Levels

Indoor air becomes very dry during winter due to heating systems. Dry air can increase dust circulation and make cleaning more difficult.

Maintaining humidity levels between 30% and 50% helps reduce dust buildup and improves indoor comfort. A humidifier can help stabilize the environment and protect wooden furniture and flooring from cracking.

5. Schedule a Deep Cleaning

Winter is a good time to schedule occasional deep cleaning. Areas like baseboards, behind furniture, and ventilation grilles often collect dust and dirt during the season.

A professional deep cleaning service can help remove accumulated grime and prepare your home for the brighter spring months.
